end of 1st place run offs  (sandymay) 24/5/2019 7:54:35

I would like to know folks views on whether it is time to take a look at doing away with 1st place run offs in Pre Beg Beg and Novice. I had a run off a few weeks ago at a limited show in Sherborne and I hated having to award 2nd place to a team that to be honest should not have had to do the round again after ending the first round on the same marks as the eventual winner. I don't feel that the higher class would warrant a change to the rules owing to the fact that there are so many things that can rearrange the final marks in those classes ie Scent and S/Away. Even if there were only one Red Rosette and one Trophy im sure something could be sorted out somehow. I would much rather have the win recorded for 1st place because lets face it, the goodies are just that. Would love to hear your views both side of the table.
Brian Reed

I totally agree Brian. But I think it should apply at least up to B. I had a run off for first in A last weekend I won but felt not good about it for the other person.
I have spoken to my Liaison Rep and we are to late to get on agenda for July but hopefully it could go forward for January  (doghouse) 24/5/2019 8:40:56

I did consider up to B. Think the powers that be should consider all options. don't lets go down the route of a complicated points system.
Brian  (sandymay) 24/5/2019 9:8:49

Love this proposal - I've been on both sides of 1st place run-offs (including in B), and hated it from each side!

The proposal would need to clarify what happens to further places in the line ups as well - would those that tie for 1st move everyone else down, or would 2nd etc still be awarded, to those on next lowest marks? I think it should be on points lost equalling places, so if there are two first places, there would still be 5 others places 2nd-6th?

BUT why should other places have to run off if first places don't? Then you could in theory end up with 3 1sts, 2 2nds, 1 3rd, 4 4ths, 10 5ths....which could be a bit of a nightmare for ordering/printing prize cards and rosettes, if this applies to all places...!   (Rhia) 24/5/2019 9:20:30

I did consider up to B. Think the powers that be should consider all options. don't lets go down the route of a complicated points system.
Brian  (sandymay) 24/5/2019 9:55:38

if we are going to start considering lower placings then I don't think it will go anywhere. 2nd place down will not get you out of a class.A tied 1st should. lets not complicate this before it even begins
Brian
  (sandymay) 24/5/2019 9:59:51

Totally agree Brian 1st place run offs should not be allowed in the lower classes. Maybe only in Class A to Class C.   (Bettsy Chris) 25/5/2019 2:37:31

Brilliant idea hate first place run offs .down the cards ok if you have a run off for first then the next dog is third so no different if there are 2 firsts.  (aardvet) 25/5/2019 10:29:44

How would the shows deal with this ? Buy extra rosettes, prize cards, trophies etc just in case ?? Can see where you are coming from, but this would really need to apply to ALL classes including Ticket classes to have a level playing field for all dogs & handlers.

Are you wanting to allow dogs(& handlers)to move up quicker ?

In the 40 odd years I was judging I know I only had a handful of runoffs for first place in any class if that I can only actually remember 1 & that's because one dog had already won out of the class, the other dog needed a win to be out of the class & it was an incredibly hot day, so the dog's handler declined(oddly enough a few weeks later the winning dog won the the same class under me & thus won out of the class on his own merit)
  (NBBAGSD) 26/5/2019 10:20:44

Don't 2nd & 3rd places in classes above Introductory & Pre Beginners affect eligibility gor these classes ? Also places 2nd & 3rd in C qualify a dog to work ticket.

Hence the need to consider ALL classes & placings( at least to 3rd)in ALL classes.

Then there is the matter of the "Excellence"awards for all classes would also be affected(the Ex that appear after a dogs name)points are awarded down to 4th for these  (NBBAGSD) 26/5/2019 10:32:42

thank you all for your input on both sides of the fence.
I just thought it would lift the sport for the better.

Newbury diversions off M4 and A34  (Brynards) 25/5/2019 18:32:56

Hi Everyone,

As you may or may not know Junction 13 (with the A34) will be closed for the weekend of 8/9th June. 2019. Highways Authority have put diversions in place from the East (London/Reading) leaving the M4 at Junction 12, the West (Bristol/Wales) leaving the M4 at junction 14 and South (Southampton) off the A34.

The diversions from the M4 mainly use the A4 to the junction with the A4/A339/A34 and the B4009 which will be signposted Showground / Diversion at this junction. To get to the Newbury show you must follow the B4009 (Hermitage) passing the Showground and continuing on to Chieveley and the Newbury Obedience show.

There is a map on the ObUK Schedules page under our date - 9th June should you want one. Or, I have maps and written directions, again from the Highway Authlority, which I can send to anyone who wants them. Just email me at mixanmax@btinternet.com telling me which way you are coming from so that you get the correct instructions emailed back. I also have some ready printed versions but you must allow time for posting should you prefer one of those.

CHESVALE - SHOW MANAGERS REPORT  (CarolS) 15/5/2019 16:44:23

CHESVALE DOG TRAINING CLUB
OPEN SHOW SUNDAY 5TH MAY 2019

After a difficult run up to the show, losing 3 of our judges and stewards and having problems with how we were going to get rid of the dogs deposits! Hazell Williamson, Sue Monk and June Le Fevre stepped in to help us and all the other judges were fantastic in supplying their own ring stewards which makes such a difference.

Thanks to Carol Ashton for taking on the role of Chief Stay Steward for us and did a brilliant job. The weather was chilly at times but perfect for the dogs and there were no reported incidents in or outside the stay ring.

The training ring was manned by Donna Bastin, Chrissie Skelly with Keith Saunders keeping them under control after setting up the rings and doing his car parking duties. They worked hard all day helping people practice and I know everyone appreciates the opportunity to train in a show environment and thanks go to the team for their time and support.

Our chosen charity this year was breast cancer and with the training ring making 152.00 and the tombola making 113.50, it means that 265.50 will be on its way to the Breast Cancer unit at Luton and Dunstable hospital.

I cant thank all our members individually in this post as there were over 30 of them! From Clare Williams our fantastic efficient show secretary, our masterchef caterers, bake off cake makers, grass rakers, toilet roll attendants, poo collectors, our tent erection team and the small army of helpers dismantling everything at the end of the day couldnt do it without you all!

Finally, to all the competitors who attended - we hope you had an enjoyable day and thank you for all the lovely comments and expressions of thanks for putting on a show. A little thanks goes a long way.

Our next show is on Sunday 25th August, pre-beginner, beginner and novice only, so look out for the schedule which will be available shortly.

CAROL SPENCER
Show Manager

If there is anyone competing in Special Pre-beginners, Pre-beginners or Beginners and you don't know how to check in, what a running order is, the stay rings or anything else...I will be at the secretary's tent at 7.45am, and will be able to show you around and answer any questions...
First suggestion, don't bring your dogs with you if you join me...a tired or bored dog won't work very well..!!
If you have a running order in any of the above classes let me know as soon as we meet at 7.45am...
